Welcome to the start of a new school year at Guntersville High School! I would like to extend my greetings to you as the 12th grade economics and government teacher. I am a graduate of Auburn University, with a Bachelor's in Science degree in Secondary Social Science Education. I will be teaching economic and government concepts as well as why it is important that students know these concepts and how this knowledge will assist them to become productive citizens in society.
While students are in my class, there are three rules by which they are to follow:
·Abide by all the school rules and policies as stated by the student handbook.
·Students should come to class each day prepared by bringing all needed materials and being prepared to work from the time the tardy bell rings until the dismissal bell rings.
·Students should respect others' as well as their own personal space and belongings.
Consequences for breaking these rules are as follows:
1.The students will receive a warning, which will be documented.
2.A parent/guardian will be contacted and a parent-teacher conference may be necessary.
3.A parent/guardian will be contacted and a parent-teacher conference will be mandatory.
4.The student will be referred to the principal's office.
*Breaking school rules will be handled in accordance with the school handbook policy.
Because students will need to take notes almost everyday in my class, paper, a 3-ring binder, and pencils or blue/black ink pens are a necessity. It would be fantastic if students would bring at least 2-3 pens or pencils to class in case a pencil breaks or a pen runs out of ink. Students will know in advance if we are approaching a project that will require other materials. If a student is unable to supply the needed materials, please call or email me or our guidance office and materials will be provided.
Please know that I am eager to serve students and parent/guardians in any way possible. I love my students and my job, and I care about your expectations. Should you need to contact me, I am available before and after school or during my planning period from 8:54-9:49 a.m. The GHS office telephone number is 582-2046, or you may email me directly at sherrybrown@gcboe.net .
Again, I am looking forward to working with students as well as parents and enthusiastic about the successful school year ahead!
